What to do for Mother’s Day – our favourite little City Truro is full of remarkable gifts to buy for your Mum. A trendy Seasalt raincoat, all fleecy and warm on the inside and waterproof on the outside is a practical and essential item. Maybe a perfume from the pristine, crisp, store, The White Company to fit snugly into Mums handbag. Or perhaps, a traditional present from Marks and Spencer, of flowers, champers and chocolates always goes down a treat. (Although, gaining weight from chocolate is not my idea of a present!).
However, as a Mother, I also fancy an experience ….or something of greater overall benefit. By this, I do not mean signing Mum up to the Truro Half Marathon…… Phew! Rather, a yoga session (Cornwall Yoga Centre), which can leave you feeling warm, energised and invigorated. Sometimes it could be an experience that would be a unique gift; Truro Arts Company hosts a range of workshops from making your own lampshade to painting with acrylics. This is a stimulating and engaging idea and is an opportunity to learn. Or perhaps a meal voucher at a restaurant, coffee shop followed by a show at the Hall for Cornwall. Possibly tea at Bone China, Truro’s latest vintage eatery, serving cocktails and high tea on delicate floral china.
Browsing past Inhabit’s creative window display, which says ‘Mum, I love you this much’ it made me think, you can surely indulge your mum in many ways! Lorelei that specialises in cards always reflects the changes in events and it’s wonderful to see the shiny paper colours and cards in the window. The Pannier Market has a glass engraver, so perhaps a vase with Mother’s name on it?
At the moment I have two children and I love the fact my youngest is now able to call me ‘mummy’, so special to hear. I am sure no one needs reminding to appreciate your Mum as often as possible. We all get old and patience and kindness is a wonderful way to love our Mums who do so much for us.
PS – keep an eye out for beauty offers in Truro, such as mini facials, pedicures or manicures – a gift that is always appreciated!
